Juliette Commagere - Painting haunting musical landscapes

Amazing song from her album Procession released 09/20/2010.

It took just a few minutes into this album for me to fall in love with the voice, and haunting melodies of this artist. This lovely young lady is the leas singer from the band called Hello Stranger from Los Angeles. Commagere learned how to play the piano at a young age. She was exposed to this by her father who is a classical record producer. She has done vocal contributions for albums by Puscifer, and Avenged Sevenfold. For this new album she has let her imagination run wild, and concentrated in paining landscapes. Some of the artist that his artist admires are; Joni Mitchell, Chet Baker, The Pixies, Townes Van Zandt and Tangerine Dream.

The Suzan - Japanese Riot-Girl Band

The Suzan Live @ Fool's Gold Day Off from Mr Goldbar on Vimeo.

This is my favorite song from the new album.

This band consists of sisters Rie [keyboards and vocals] and Saori [guitar and vocals], along with friends Nico and Ikue. The band was formed back in the summer of 2004, and they toured Europe and UK. They soon came to get the attention of  Bjorn from Peter, Bjorn and John. Bjorn helped them produce their newly released album, and it came out on Fool's Gold record label. These girls are the only rock band for this record lable that mostly represents DJ's and rappers. Their first single "Home" has been available for download in the internet for sometime, and has received quite the attention from people. The band was given a great review from MTV IGGY, the new global music and pop culture network from MTV, for a September performance in the Fool's Gold Day of Party in New York. Absolutely, a great start for these girls, and keep an eye for their new album Golden Week for the Poco Poco Beat that came out this October.

Luisa Maita - One of São Paulo's Finest

ALENTO - LUISA MAITA * 2010 from joaowainer.com on Vimeo.

Luisa Maita grew up in a musical family with her father being a musician, and mother being a concert producer. As a young child she was exposed to what her parents listened to which was samba, bossa nova and jazz: João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Nana Caymmi, Vinicius de Moraes, Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, Baden Powell. After listening to her album I was amazed with her beautiful voice, and music. I choose the video above to show the beauty of Brazil, and how Luisa's music complements every scene. Her album "Lero- Lero" which came out this year will quickly be one of my favorites when I want to listen Brazilian music.

Kisses - Soothing and Mellow Electric Sounds

Kisses - Kisses from Kisses on Vimeo.

Another fun song from this group

Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson, make-up the duo, Kisses from Los Angeles, California. Their music is a blend of electronic, dance, and synthpop all wrapped into one. The Heart of the Nightlife is their first small album with a total of nine fun songs. The group also has a retro style of the 70's and 80's. The album has such lively energy that reminded me of a warm summer night out with friends.

Gepe - Talented artist from Chile

Gepe - Por la ventana from paniko on Vimeo.

This is the song that is playing in my iPod non-stop! Enjoy!

From Santiago, Chile is were Daniel Riveros is from, and he goes by the stage name of Gepe. His music is a mix of folklore, pop and electric, and I simply love the way this is done. Folklore is given a new life, and a fresh beginning. He has a metaphor for what he does with music. He compares music to a house that is built, but later remodeled. The remodeling keeps the original foundation, but a new roof is added, yet the home is kept in it's original neighborhood. He has been influenced by; Beach Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, Gastr del Sol, Sonic Youth, Swans, Yo La Tengo, Animal Collective, Kings of Convenience, and not to mention the roots of Chilean music like Viota Parra, Víctor Jara.

Y La Bamba - Mexican inspired experimental folk

Y La Bamba - Juniper from Tangible Worldwide on Vimeo.

Luz Elena Mendoza's songs resembles haunting lullabies. She sings in both English and Spanish a mix of Mexican inspired experimental folk songs. The first time I heard her music I was stopped my the eeriness, and beauty of her vocals. This singer's colorful upbringing has contributed much to her type of music. As a child she grew up in Oregon, but frequently traveled to California, and Mexico to visit family members. As a child she would listen to corridos, and Mexican mariachi music from Michoacan, where her parents are from. Y la Bamba is formed by: Luz Elena, Ben Meyer, Mike Kitson on drums, Sean Flinn on lead guitar, Eric Shrapel on accordion, Paul Cameron,
and Scott Magee.

Lady - Blues-Infused Music

"A Moment... with Lady" Promo from Geoff Morris on Vimeo.

This Philadelphia music group's blues-infused music is wonderful. "I Think It's Fine" EP was just released on October 5, 2010 from the record label Rodeadope. The voice behind the music is from 21 year old singer Kate Foust, along with; Liz Zook playing violinJim Scanlan playing bass, Ryan Belski on guitar, and JP Dudas on drums. All the songs in this EP were written by Kate Foust, and flow very nicely. Each song is sightly distinctly different from the next adding to the band's talent, and ability to evolve their sound. I for one am looking forward to this band's full length album.

Duck Sauce - Two DJs making me dance

Duck Sauce "Barbra Streisand" from Mr Goldbar on Vimeo.

Duck Sauce is a collaboration between A-Trak and Armand van Helden. Debut single "aNYway" was released on 25th October 2009 on Data Records. Duck Sauce's sound, which mashes classic disco house with forward-thinking dancefloor energy. Their sound is amazingly catchy, and instantly gets people moving. As I was searching in the internet, YouTube, and Last FM it seems that the single "Barbra Streisand" is a hit amongst the listeners. Dozens of people are leaving comments in those various sites showing praise. It will be interesting to see what else this duo somes up with next.

Lido Pimienta - Tiene algo que decir

Lido Pimienta_Mueve_Video Oficial from Lido Pimienta on Vimeo.

This 23 year-old Colombian singer stunned me with her her 8 song album "Color". The song Mueve focus in the simple pleasures of live, and the inner peace that music gives us. She lives, and goes to school in Canada, where she studies Art Criticism-Curation. When creating the songs she likes to start with the bass, she thinks of the the bass is the core of it all, the heart. Then, everything else falls into place afterwards.
"I write about love, about defending one’s freedom, about being a mother, about being poor and wanting to get ahead in life, about being gay and how ridiculous that it is still an issue to many…I talk about my personal struggle which many others can relate to, I sing in spanish, sometimes in english but the language is not really an obstacle, because the songs are intense, soul and heart full, I put all those ingredients together and bake a song that tastes like love. Something like that…" - Lido Pimienta

Laurie Levine

Laurie Levine: Kites - music video from Stealth Donkey on Vimeo.

Laurie Levine, is young talent from South Africa, that was recently been nominated for a 2010 SAMA (South African Music Award) award.  She is an artist with a fresh approach, and unique sound with a jazzy and a soulful voice. Laurie’s music comes from the ‘heartspace’, the word poet Breyten Breytenbach uses to describe South Africa’s anguished beauty. Over the last few years Laurie has been developing her live act, and the additions of accordion, mandolin and piano have already alerted audiences to her evocative new sound.

Shadow Shadow Shade (formally called Afternoons)

WHITE HORSE from SHADOW SHADOW SHADE on Vimeo.

This is a video trilogy that combines three songs together to tell a very saddening story.

From the new album the songs are:
1) Amputee
2) You are my perfect wilderness
3) Dark of Heather

This Los Angeles band was called "Afternoon", but had to
change their name for legality issues with the Welch Band "the Afternoon".  After, seven long months of thinking, and looking in at suggestions Shadow Shadow Shade was chosen.  This band started as a side art project between Ben and Steve, and a few recorded songs. After, the demo got some attention by some promoters in Silver Lake, did the members start to take themselves serious.

When asked who was the major influences for the band this was their response in a interview with Spinner Magazine:

So hard to say. Claire is an opera singer, and Tom's a producer who's worked withKanye and the Wires. We all really like Pavement; all love the Beatles. With this album we reference a lot of Brian Eno, Pink Floyd, and the Mamas and Papas."
