Trading Philadelphia for Los Angeles, RYAT’s transformation was juxtapositioned with a new awareness of her natural surroundings and unexpected visits from animals, whose dream partners give the album its name TOTEM.
Every track of TOTEM represents a different spirit animal, each with a message translated through RYAT’s experimentation with unusual sound signatures.A serious oeuvre, TOTEM blends classical elements and cinematic sounds with experimental time changes. Twisting through the gritty, disheveled beats like an elegant ribbon, RYAT’s gracefully processed vocals merge with electronic surprises to create a work of intense abstract art.

Struggle as a metaphor is something every human can relate to. One of the most prolific and challenging forms of struggle in the world today is the plight of ethnic and religious minorities, which is the topic of Niyaz’s third album, Sumud (pronounced soomood) forthcoming on Six Degrees Records. Translating from Arabic as ‘steadfastness,’ lead singer Azam Ali chose this philosophical term as a symbolic reminder that, as she explains, ‘every human being should inherit the right to live with dignity and freedom upon the land on which they are born.’ With a heavier emphasis on the electronic side of their sound and a special guest vocal appearance from Oscar-winning Indian composer, musician and singer AR Rahman, Sumud is the most powerful release yet from one of global fusion's most popular bands.

Light Asylum are Shannon Funchess and Bruno Coviello from Brooklyn, New York, USA.
Having spent years touring and performing as synth pop project The Dreamies, Coviello channels a different strand of influence and completes the LIGHT ASYLUM sound alongside Funchess. The result is an uncompromising, rugged mixture of coldwave, EBM and electro-industrial structured through pop of the toughest sensibilities. A LIGHT ASYLUM production straddles underground electronic club music and radio song culture – part introverted, aggressive vehicles, part bright, jubilant fanfares – passages of carefully devised harmony and melody bloom between stabs of driving keyboards and drum machines.
They released their first EP “In Tension” in 2010. The four track EP was re-released in 2011 through Mexican Summer and licensed to Cooperative Music
The self-titled debut album is scheduled for release in May 1, 2012.
HighasaKite make songs unlike most things yet to come out of Norway. Keyboards, zither, pounding drums and the occasional noise guitar together with Ingrid Helene’s distinctive voice makes a delicious blend of exciting indie pop inspired by artists such as Lykke Li and the movie Where The Wild Things Are.

The Good Natured are an electropop trio from Berkshire, United Kingdom. The band consists of singer-songwriter Sarah McIntosh, her brother Hamish McIntosh on bass and George Hinton on drums.
The Good Natured, recently signed to Regal/Parlophone Records, offer a catchy gothic twist on electropop with their new EP titled Skeleton, released on 20 June 2011. In the songs featured on the Skeleton EP, Sarah displays her compellingly mature command of the nuances of serious pop music, combined with the darker, and often more sensual, emotional and lyrical content of the gothic. Both “Skeleton” and “Wolves” are produced by Patrik Berger, known for his work with Robyn.Facebook
Alabama Shakes is an American rock band formed in Athens, Alabama, United States in 2009. The lead singer,Brittany Howard, did a lot of that as a kid, spending weekends in her room experimenting with instruments and a tape recorder, making up lyrics and layering sounds, unconsciously preparing herself for a life now consumed by music.
Her taste in music was considerably more esoteric than the typical teen in a small-town northern Alabama high school. “I spent a lot of time with my grandmother’s music: Dion, the Platters, the Drifters, the Temptations – I grew up on that,” she says. Later she discovered T. Rex and David Bowie, and got her education in roots music from Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones albums.

Former Dum Dum Girl, Katie Serbian-Brouillette is releasing her new project Cheap Curls' debut 7" on Art Fag Recordings this spring.
"I've wanted Katie Brouillette-Serbian, bassist, guitarist, vocalist, and more importantly, song writer for Cheap Curls to record an album of her bittersweet power pop since I first met her nearly a decade ago. At the time, she was very much in love with my best friend who was constantly promoting her prolific song writing prowess to me. At that point, however, Katie was stricken with fright when it came down to sharing her home recorded bedroom pop. Katie strummed on, continuing to discover new personal ground and gain the courage that only these turbulent and accelerated times call for. She joined the much loved maudlin act Dum Dum Girls and began traveling the world consistently even recording on the act's second full length release, Only In Dreams. Katie had grown up, so to speak, in clubs and on festival stages around the world and was now confident both in her musical and personal life enough to call time on her position in Dum Dum Girls and begin the exciting stages of recording and releasing an album of her own. She's an exciting musical mind who can wail like Dolly Parton "In Your Arms", and serenade like Roy Orbison in "Message". She also has an exceeding amount of chops as heard on the Blondie-esque "Jackie Oh." Songwriters such as Paul Weller and Pete Perrett are seemingly over looked on American shores. Let's give Cheap Curls the praise she deserves. The debut EP will be released on California's Art Fag Recordings this year."
Teeel aka Jim Smith credits his sound to marathon movie watching and being an obsessive gear head. Creating music in a 10×10 teal painted room, stacked with synthesizers and guitars with walls covered with vintage Moog ads, Jim creates music that ranges from hypnotic synthpop to dreamy disco and dark electronica.
Formed from the collaboration of DJ producer Jon Waters and songwriter Ann Yu. Ann has been in bands that have shared the stage with acts such as The Radio Dept, La Roux, Black Kids, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Mates of State, Jose Gonzales and many more. Jon has produced and DJ’d all over the world. But with all of the experience the duo decided to take a different route when it comes to creating music together. Silver Swans puts a special meaning to the idea of bedroom recordings. All tracks were recorded in late night sessions hidden under covers, in their bathrooms, and right before bed. The songs you hear are a reflection of the dreams they’ve uncovered and hope to discover.
Armed with a rampant imagination, a plethora of dark, emotive pop songs, and backed by a growing army of top producers and worldwide fans, Charli is not like your run-of-the-mill musician. Playing in bands since the age of seven, Charli's long had music coursing through her veins. She recorded her first album at 14 with a loan from the bank of mum and dad and she’s only just paid them back. It did the trick though attracting attention from the right London scenesters and bagging her gigs at warehouse raves across Hackney. Earlier this summer she released ‘Stay Away’.

There is something I'm really liking here. I was not a big fan of her single "Big Mouth", but this song is on heavy rotation in Sandie's February Radio Station. Enjoy!
Born in 1948, Bradley got to see James Brown at the Apollo Theater in Harlem in 1962, and the experience was transformative. From then on, Bradley performed when and where he could while supporting himself with odd jobs (mainly as a cook) and groping for that main chance.
He got it when Gabriel Roth of the soul-driven Daptone Records - famous for bringing Sharon Jones, another struggling great, to our attention - heard him and guided him down the path that led to last year's "No Time for Dreaming," an album that not only packed a lifetime into 12 songs but also kicked another retro-soul dreamer into a reality he deserved.
Front man Peter Liddle decribes Dry The River's music as "folky gospel music played by a post-punk band". Liddle formed Dry The River as a solo project to express music created from influences formed during Medicine and Anthropology studies at University, along with inspiration taken from the likes of Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and At The Drive In.
The Norwegian born songwriter ended a 2009 summer tour by enlisting the help of a collection of old friends from previous bands for the tour close in London. This decision proved fruitful as Transgressive soon signed up the nascent group, providing support for a further tour to sharpen their developing sound. Soon they were on the radar of BBC Introducing, who invited Dry The River to play their stage at Glastonbury 2010.
Now based in London's Stratford the quintet have enjoyed a prosperous 2011, awaits their new album on March 2, 2012 called "Shallow Bed"

Soda Stereo were an Argentine rock band that achieved fame and international success throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s. They were a power trio made up of Gustavo Cerati on vocals and guitar, Héctor "Zeta" Bosio on bass, and drummer Charly Alberti. The band is widely considered as the forerunners of the Latin American / Ibero-America / Rock En Español movement that emerged during the mid-1980’s. Soda’s early sound was influenced by new wave bands such as The Police. The band gradually evolved into a heavier sounding alternative rock band, eventually drawing influences from classic rock, progressive rock, shoegaze, neo-psychedelia, britpop, and electronic music. Soda played an important role in the development and diffusion of Latin American / Ibero-America rock. They were the first Latin rock group to achieve mainstream success in South and Central America and helped popularize the Rock En Español scene of the 1980’s.
The band established what would become the template for Spanish-speaking rock music groups and in the process broke numerous ticket and sales records, especially in their native Argentina. They are considered by critics to be one of the best Latin American /Ibero-America rock bands of all time. Soda has sold over 7 million of albums in Latin America and their back catalog continues to sell to this day. In 2002 Soda Stereo was awarded the "Legend Prize" by MTV Latin America, the first prize to be awarded of its kind.
