Cat's Eyes - Opera Soprano meets The Horrors
8:26 PM
Latest tracks by Cat's Eyes Music
Cat’s Eyes is a duo formed by Rachel Zeffira, a renowned opera soprano and classical multi-instrumentalist, and Faris Badwan, the singer from British psychedelic-rockers The Horrors. The two meet in 2009 and found that they shared an obsession with 60's girl groups. Amazingly, their first performance was at St Peter's Basilica, in the Vatican City in December of 2010. Their first release, Broken Glass EP, out on February 28, followed by their self-titled album on April 11.

Alberto Ćndio - Sweet words in Portuguese
4:50 PM
ALBERTO ĆNDIO - MAGIA from Persona Non Grata on Vimeo.
Alberto Ćndio's single "Sinceramente", sung in Portuguese, captured me as soon as I heard it. This artist's first album is anticipated in 2011 and it is promised to be filled with sentiment, nostalgia, and life experiences. The debut single is already getting some air play in many Portuguese radio stations.

Aį¹£a - A little soul and words of wisdom
3:38 PM
ASA – Be my man from notjustok-TV on Vimeo.
My favorite song from her last album.
Aį¹£a (pronounced "Asha") born Bukola Elemide, was born in Paris, France to Nigerian parents. She was taken to live in Nigeria at two, there twenty years later, she returned to Paris where she discovered: Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Raphael Saadiq, Lauryn Hill, Femi Kuti and AngĆ©lique Kidjo. She is currently signed with NaĆÆve, a French independent record label.
In an interview with Hi Magazine, she had this to say regarding her new album:
"I am much more happier and I think it’s because I have learned to let go of a lot of things, I have learnt to travel and carry light, it’s also about taking care of myself – I’m not saying I am leaving the people behind, all I’m saying is that I’m just letting go a lot of unnecessary baggage, so you can feel it because I’m happy. I’ve had a lot of sunshine and during these 2 years, I went through a lot of ups and downs and it has made me stronger".

Fiona Bevan: Fiery singer (folk, jazz and pop)
3:46 PM
A song from her recent Ep...
...and demonstrating her vocal talents
TLGB feat. Fiona Bevan - Winter Hunter (Blaze Tripp Vocal Remix) by Blaze Tripp
Fiona Bevan is a London based singer-songwriter, and has been known to collaborate with up-and-coming electro DJ’s. She is a fiery singer and sweet songwriter, who pries into the dark, obsessive corners of love via folk, jazz and pop. Fiona released her debut solo album called, "Plant Your Heart" on November 16, 2009. This lady's voice is a mix of: Adele vocals, Kate Bush echoes, and a bit of Kate Nash accent. On January 24, 2011, she launched "Us And The Darkness" - EP with four wonderful songs.

SLEEP ∞ OVER - Gorgeously Ghostly Vocals from Austin
10:58 AM
This band formed in October 2009, and in May of 2010, they released a split 7-inch EP with Light Lodge Records along with band Pure Ecstasy. Their sound is like what "Beach House might sound like if they played in a graveyard" according to Pitchfork. This type of music has been tagged "Witch House". So far , the trio's singles have been receiving favorable reviews from: Pitchfork and The Guardian UK. A full-length LP is expected in the near future, at the moment the band is unsigned.
Band Members:
Christa Palazzolo, Stefanie Franciotti and Sarah Brown
WTF is Witch House?
The term “Witch House” was coined in 2009 by Johnathan Coward of Shams and Travis Egedy of Pictureplane. This electronic music movement typically incorporates elements of hip-hop, dubstep, electro, gothic, shoegaze, ritual ambient, noise, and drone music. This type of music a often has a slow tempo, and a lo-fi aesthetic, meant to evoke a dark, sinister occult moods.

Painted Palms - Sunny Tropical Electronic Music
10:35 AM
a song from the Ep
and remix for your enjoyment
Recently, I have ran across a few tracks remixed by "Painted Palms", so I set out to find out a little about them. They have remixed music for Asobi Seksu, STRFKR, and Here We Go Magic. Painted Palms are two cousins, Chris Prudhomme from Louisiana, and Reese Donohue from San Francisco, who exchange ideas by email. The Canopy EP, released November 16, 2010, is the result of these communications. People just can't get enough of the sunny tropical sounds that convey happiness and the remixes that give the songs a new warm twist. Reese Donohue is a current member of Butterfly Bones from San Francisco.
You can get the album for free at:

The Black and White Years - Hand-clappin' Indie from Austin
12:06 PM
The Black and White Years "To Modern Science" from The Sessions on Vimeo.
The Black and White Years are based in Austin, Texas and are currently with Brando Records. The indie band likes to mix synth rock, upbeat electronics, and a touch of new wave to create their sound. The band's name comes from the black and white years of television, a kind of nostalgic reminder of simpler times. For their self-titled debut in 2008, Jerry Harrison, guitarist and keyboardist from the Talking Heads, helped them produce it. In 2009, the band won “Best New Band”, along with “Best Rock Band”, and “Song of the Year” awards for "Power to Change" at the Austin Music Awards. In November of 2010, the band released their sophomore full-length production called, Patterns.
Members:
Scott Butler - vocals, guitars, keys, words
Landon Thompson - guitars, keys, vocals
John Aldridge - bass, brass
Billy Potts - drums

Sleep Party People - Dreamlike music from Denmark
2:23 PM
VEGA ROSKILDESESSIONS - SLEEP PARTY PEOPLE from bemerk on Vimeo.
This is the project of Brian Batz that incorporates sleepy melodies by using an old drum machine, a piano and a guitar. Batz recorded the album, "Sleep Party People" solo, then in the videos and the tour he brought on other musicians to play everything live. The strangest thing about the performances is that the musicians are all wearing rabbits masks and hoodies. This music venture is being compared to: The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, and Cocteau Twins, but with a weird like lullaby quality.

Night Riders - Space Disco from France
4:29 PM
The music has a mix of dream pop, retro disco, and electronic funk. The group formed in 2010 in Paris, and was later discovered by Frank Agrario from Mozzarella Records. Agrario, "I instantly thought that we had a lot of the same background, the obscure disco, King Tubby, and the Jamican dub thing, love for analog synths and drum machines, they captured my imagination and as soon I heard that they recorded the ep on tape I signed them!!!"
Pretty amazing for this newly formed group.

This is Laura Becerra from Guadalajara, Mexico and she goes by the stage name "Carrie". Her songs are sweet and dreamy electronic sounds that are sung in English. She uses her guitar and laptop to create these sounds. In 2005, she released her debut album, “Honey Blue Star” with the Tijuana-based label Static Discos, and Dearstereofan, in Madrid, Spain. In 2008, she released the album "1981". She is one of the founders of Abolipop, an electronic record label based out of Zapopan, Mexico.

Los Amparito: Latin Freak Folk
3:50 PM
Los Amparito - CuatrociƩnegas (con Carla Morrison) from carlos pesina on Vimeo.
Huarache-gaze (shoe gaze) or Mariachi-wave is just one of the descriptions that this band receives, along with the title "The Mexican Animal Collective" by bloggers. These four band members are sampling little mariachi bands and 60s pop riffs, then mixing them with synths and operatic choruses. Carlos Pesina leads the group and is well known in the Mexican indie scene as well for having mixed songs for Panda Bear and Animal Collective. The band name was taken from a very well known sandwich sold in the streets of Guadalajara, Los Lonches Amparito. Some of the main influences of this band are Amparo Ochoa (a '60s Mexican folk singer) and Los Xochimilcas (a 60's freaked out comedy rock group).Los Amparito did participate at SXSW music festival in 2010 and were tagged "ONES-TO-WATCH", so let's see what 2011 brings from this artist.

The Loveable Tulips - Indie-pop from Sweden
9:05 AM
The Loveable Tulips - Fortune favours the brave from The Loveable Tulips on Vimeo.
My personal favorite from their new single with a touch of piano.
Pia PĆ„ltoft and Pernilla Axerup from Stockholm, compose the harmonic duo The Loveable Tulips. The ladies just signed with the Minty Fresh label, and worked with producer by Jari Haapalainen. Jari has produced several artists during the past ten years for example, Ed Harcourt, Camera Obscura , and The Concretes. Their music has amazing harmony and contains great vocals that you can heat on the full length album out in September of 2011.

My favorite song from this lady found in her album "Between Me And The Wardrobe"
Gwyneth Herbert is a British singer-songwriter that has been playing the piano and writing songs from a very young age. She started singing Jazz and was signed to Universal Classics and Jazz. She left the label to peruse a new personal style all her own. Within her music, you will find storytelling, poetry, folk singing, ukulele, hand claps and bells. Her recent album "Clangers and Mash," contains remixes from songs found in her album "All the Ghosts".

DIRTY BEACHES - Like Dreamers Do from Moduli TV on Vimeo.
Dirty Beaches is a solo project of Alex Zhang Hungtai that has released EPs and LPs with Fixture Records. He is a Taiwan native that has made Toronto, Honolulu, Montreal and Vancouver his homes. Alex prefers to play alone to simplify things, which in turns also helps set the mood for his music; a mysterious and desolate highway with the sunsetting in the west. He will be touring with: Crocodiles, Golden Triangle, Minks, Tennis, Reading Rainbow, and Dum Dum Girls.
